Flirting with the conventional and mainstream, Callipolis is the Dystopian-Pop vision of Swiss singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Timothée Botbol. After training as a concert cellist at the Royal College of Music and a very successful early career in the UK and Europe, Timo decides to shift to his lifelong passion, music production. Reflecting his own struggle as an introvert juggling between intensity and reserve, the result is a journey to an imaginary world of lavish sounding orchestral tones, vintage synths, worn out drums and the occasional soaring guitars reminiscent of the 80s. Delivered with a mature baritone voice, subtle messages of fictional propaganda from the imaginary City of Callipolis hide behind visual wonders and stories of heartbreak that almost always retract into sophistication and scepticism.
